New Britain youth theater offers virtual winter theater classes
NEW BRITAIN — No Boundaries Youth Theater Company’s winter classes begin Jan. 25 and are being held online. Space is limited and registration is encouraged, as soon as possible. While the website is being rebuilt, families can email [email protected] to register for any of these classes.
Playwriting with Ms Rae: Write a new play, and work with Rae as she guides through the art of creating dialogue for characters. At the end the class will host a virtual play reading with members of the class and members of the community reading each other’s short plays. Open to ages 11-16, classes run Jan. 25-March 1, playwriting; March 8, 15, script reading rehearsal and share, 6-7:30 p.m. Free, with suggested donation of $40 for the 6 week series.
Shakespeare workshop with Ms Nicki : Read and dissect Shakespeare’s famous scenes and sonnets as we prepare for the NBYT teen company Shakespeare Slam slated for June 2021. Learn about the language, plot and themes to prepare yourself for the upcoming production at the New Britain Museum of American Art. If you have a scene, monologue, or sonnet to work, bring it with you. Open to ages 12-20, Jan. 26-March 2, 5-6 p.m., free, suggested $5 per class.
“Monologues, Monologues, wherefore art thou monologue?” Monologues with Ms. Rae. Join Rae virtually as she guides you through the process of “dissecting” an assigned monologue. Learn ways to define the meaning behind what you are saying. The class will also offer a quick overview of theatre history and acting techniques. Open to ages 8-14, Jan. 27-March 3, 5-6 p.m., share day, March 3, 6 p.m. Free with suggested $40 for the 6 week series.
Musical Theater Choreography with Ms Tatyana : Join us virtually for the month to learn a new dance routine from a popular musical. Tatyana will work with everyone at their skill level to help them master basic steps to unique combinations. Open to ages 8-14, Feb. 4-25, 5-6 p.m., free, suggested $25 for the month.
Shakespeare Slam NBYT Teen Company Show directed by Ms. Nicki : Scenes, monologues, sonnets to be performed individually or in small groups. Under the help and direction of Ms. Nicki, bring various Shakespearean pieces to life on the beautiful grounds of the New Britain Museum of American Art. Open to ages 12 and up, adults welcome. Fee $100, scholarships and financial aid available. Starts the week of March 15, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rehearsals to be virtual and limited in person until safe to do so; live show planned for June 25-27 at the NBMAA.
Intro to Playwriting with Ms Rae: Work on writing a new play fairy tale, as she guides through the art of creating dialogue for characters in the tales. The group will work on taking characters from a chosen faire tale and create a script. The next step will be members of the group will get to choose their own tale to bring to life in script form. At the end the class will host a virtual play reading with members of the class and members of the community reading each other’s short plays. Open to ages 8-12, Mondays, April 5-May 10, playwriting; May 17-24, reading rehearsal and share, 6-7:30 p.m. Free, suggested $40 for the 6 week series.
