Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on a real mafia queen who ruled her area in Mumbai, Kamathipura, with an iron fist. The story follows the journey of a woman by the same name, and begins with her suitor selling her into prostitution. Eventually, Gangubai becomes the madam of the brothel and grows into a formidable mafia queen. The film stars Alia Bhatt as the lead character, along with Vijay Raaz, Emraan Hashmi, Indira Tiwari, Shantanu Maheshwari, and Seema Pahwa in the major roles. It is directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali.
