Tickets are now on sale for the 59th consecutive season of Tibbits Summer Theatre, which offers everything from toe-tapping melodies to playful comedic situations to heart-felt lessons.

Tibbits 2022 Summer Theatre Season begins with three musicals: a musical journey into relationships with “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change;” a timeless musical tale of friendship, loyalty and love with “Godspell;” and a hilarious, heavenly romp with “Nunsense.” The main season closes with Neil Simon’s comedy “Barefoot in the Park.” New this year, the schedule includes an additional matinee on alternating Sundays. Tibbits Popcorn Theatre also returns with five kid-friendly shows. Late-night cabarets will extend the live entertainment and showcase the versatility of the summer company.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” opens the season and runs June 16-25. Sponsored by the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities, this musical showcases everything people have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws. This hilarious comedy progresses through the relationship cycle, from awkward first dates to marital bliss and baby talk to contemplation of divorce. The stories flow through equally-relatable songs and scenes like “Single Man Drought,” “On the Highway of Love” and “Funerals are for Dating.”

Next, the musical “Godspell,” sponsored by Parrish Excavating, dances across the stage with messages of kindness, tolerance and love at performances June 30- July 9. A small group playfully bring the parables of Jesus to life with an eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville including “Day by Day,” “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All Good Gifts” and “Turn Back, O Man.”

“Nunsense,” the final musical of the season, sponsored by Frederick Family Dental, will continue the fun on stage July 14-23. The Little Sisters of Hoboken parade their talents in a variety show staged to raise funds to bury sisters accidentally poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God). Songs like “Nunsense is Habit-Forming,” “Tackle that Temptation with a Time-Step” and “Holier than Thou” will keep the audience laughing and humming long after the show ends.

The main season closes with Neil Simon’s comedy “Barefoot in the Park,” which has performances July 28-August 6 and is sponsored by Vandervort, Christ & Fisher. This classic comedy follows newlyweds Corie and Paul, who are over the moon to begin their life together in their new Manhattan apartment. Their small space, the six-flight climb, the busted heat, snow falling through the skylight, a surprise visit from Corie’s conservative widowed mother, and the antics of their eccentric bohemian neighbor, turn their life into comical discord.

Cabarets on July 21 and 22 will extend the evening’s fun. This dynamic late-night performance features favorite Summer Theatre performers showcasing beloved Broadway songs. The $15 ticket price for this performance with an exclusive mix of solos, duets, trios and group arrangements includes a drink from the theatre’s Ghost Light Bar as well.
