Youth theater group begins remote classes Jan. 25

No Boundaries Youth Theater will begin its latest classes on Jan. 25.

Classes are:

“Playwriting with Ms Rae.” Students will work virtually to write a new play. At the end, there will be a virtual play reading with members of the class. The class is open to students, ages 11-16.

No Boundaries Youth Theater will be offering a variety of theater-related classes in a remote learning environment starting Jan. 25.

The class runs Mondays from Jan. 25-March 1 for playwrighting. March 8 and 15 will be dedicated to script reading rehearsal and sharing. All classes run 6-7:30 p.m.

The class is free with a suggested donation of $40

“Shakespeare workshop.” In this virtual class, students will read and dissect Shakespeare’s famous scenes and sonnets in preparation for the NBYT teen company “Shakespeare Slam” slated for June 2021. Students will learn about the language, plot and themes to prepare for the upcoming production at the New Britain Museum of American Art. If you have a scene, monologue, or sonnet to work on please bring that. The class is open to students ages 12-20.

The class meets Tuesdays from Jan. 26-March 2 from 5-6 p.m. It is free with a suggested donation of $5 a class.

“Monologues, Monologues, wherefore art thou monologue?” The instructor will guide students through the process of “dissecting” an assigned monologue. Students will learn ways to define the meaning behind what they are saying. Students will learn the skills used to not just say the written word but have meaning behind what you say. This class will also offer a quick overview of theater history and acting techniques. It is open to ages 8-14.

The class meets Wednesdays, Jan. 27-March 3 from 5-6 p.m. It is free with a suggested donation of $40.

“Musical Theater Choreography.” Students will meet virtually for the month to learn a new dance routine from a popular musical. The instructor will work with students at their own skill level to help them master basic steps to unique combinations. The class is open to ages 8-14.

The class meets Thursdays, Feb. 4-25 from 5-6 p.m. The class is free with a suggested donation of $25.

“Shakespeare Slam NBYT Teen Company Show.” Students will perform scenes, monologues and sonnets to be performed individually or in small groups. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will bring various Shakespearean pieces to life on the grounds of the New Britain Museum of American Art. The class is open to ages 12 and up. Adults are welcome.

Preparation will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8 p.m., beginning March 15. Rehearsals will be virtual and limited in person until safe to do so.

Participation fee for the event is $100. Scholarships and financial aid are available.

“Intro to Playwriting.” In this virtual class, students will write a new play fairy tale. Students will learn how to create dialogue for characters. The group will work on taking characters from a chosen fairy tale and create a script. The members then will get to choose their own tale to bring to life in script form. At the end, there will be a virtual play reading with members of the class and members of the community reading each other’s short plays. The class is open to ages 8-12.

The class will meet Mondays, April 5-May 10 for playwriting. Script reading rehearsal and sharing will by held May 17-24. The meetings are 6-7:30 p.m. Classes are free with suggested donation of $40 for the 6 week series
